Fort Campbell Soldiers Receive Distinguished Flying Cross

Two Fort Campbell soldiers, Chief Warrant Officer 2 David Woodward and Captain Lindsay Gordon, were presented with the Distinguished Flying Cross in a ceremony Wednesday.

Woodward and Gordon are with the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade. They were honored for support in a time sensitive target at night on December 5-6, 2015. The supported in the infiltration of a high profile target on the Pakistan border.

Lt. Colonel Jeffrey J. Bragg quoted a witness to the scene in describing it as having “lit up like a hornet’s nest.”

The distinguished flying cross was established in 1926 and is awarded to a person who distinguishes themselves by heroism or extraordinary achievement while participating in flight, voluntary action above and beyond the call of duty.

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
