Fort Campbell Halloween Decorations Draw Claim of Racism

Clarksville Now (clarksvillenow.com)

Fort Campbell officials say an offensive Halloween display at an on-post residence has been removed. Authorities responded to a report yesterday of decorations that depict what appears to be the lynching of an African-American family.

A photo submitted to the website ClarksvilleNow.com also shows one of the smaller figures with a knife in its back.

One of the figures held a sign that isn't legible in the picture.

The home’s occupant was notified of the complaints and removed the display.

No charges have been filed, and the homeowner has apologized.

Todd Hatton hails from Paducah, Kentucky, where he got into radio under the auspices of the late, great John Stewart of WKYX while a student at Paducah Community College. He also worked at WKMS in the reel-to-reel tape days of the early 1990s before running off first to San Francisco, then Orlando in search of something to do when he grew up. He received his MFA in Creative Writing at Murray State University. He vigorously resists adulthood and watches his wife, Angela Hatton, save the world one plastic bottle at a time.
