A former McCracken County deputy jailer has pleaded not guilty to multiple counts of misconduct.
The Paducah Sun reports 31-year-old Ben Green entered the plea at an arraignment Tuesday. Green was indicted May 5 on 16 counts of first-degree official misconduct. A special prosecutor has been appointed to take over the case and Judge Chris Hollowell recused himself.
The case stems from Green's February decision to move several inmates from protective custody to general population cells, resulting in altercations between inmates. At least three inmates claim they were physically assaulted. Green's attorney Jeremy Smith says there was no real procedure in place at the jail. He says since Green was a supervisor and therefore could reclassify inmates.
Green's next appearance is scheduled for June 1.
