Former Governor Steve Beshear Launches "Save Kentucky Healthcare"

savekyhealthcare.org

Former Governor Steve Beshear is forming a new initiative to educate Kentuckians about the effects of dismantling Kynect and altering Medicaid expansion.

The grassroots effort is called Save Kentucky Healthcare. The campaign will include online education for voters and a petition to pressure Governor Matt Bevin to let Kentuckians keep their health care.

Beshear says Kentuckians deserve to keep their access to health care regardless of which political party is in power. “Because our ultimate goal is to preserve access to affordable health care for every Kentuckian no matter what the delivery model may look like.”

Beshear implemented the ACA in Kentucky under executive order. Since 2013, more than 500,000 Kentuckians have used Kynect to enroll in a qualified health plan or Medicaid. Bevin says the state can’t afford the reforms Beshear put into place, and he’s seeking federal approval to change them.

A recent Gallup poll reports Kentucky’s uninsured rate is down to 7.5%.
