Fireplace Manufacturer Closing TN Facility

A Nashville-based fireplace manufacturer says it plans to close a plant in Union City in 2014. Media reports that Innovative Hearth Products CEO Mark Klein says the move will allow the company "to remain the low cost producer and stay very competitive" in the industry. The company produces indoor and outdoor fireplaces, inserts, different types of heating stoves and fireplace accessories. Union City Mayor Terry Hailey says he expects the number of layoffs to be more than 250. He says the city is still trying to recover from the shutdown in 2011 of the Goodyear plant in which 1,800 workers lost their jobs.  He says officials are working hard to bring new job opportunities to the community.
