The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has declared federal disaster aid for 20 Kentucky counties, including more than a dozen in our listening area.

According to a news release issued Friday, the aid will supplement state and local recovery efforts to areas affected by severe storms, tornadoes and flooding between July 2 and 9 this year.

Kentucky requested the funding in early August.

The complete list of counties include:

  • Butler
  • Caldwell
  • Calloway
  • Christian
  • Clay
  • Crittenden
  • Daviess
  • Edmonson
  • Hart
  • Hopkins
  • Livingston
  • Lyon
  • Marshall
  • Metcalfe
  • Ohio
  • Todd

Funding is available on a cost-sharing basis to the state and local governments, as well as certain nonprofit organizations for emergency work and repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the storms. Funding is also available for hazard mitigation measures for the state.
Application details will be explained in a series of briefings in affected areas. Locations will be announced by recovery officials.
