Fancy Farm Picnic Planning Underway
Planning has begun for the 132nd annual Fancy Farm Picnic. The event is the first Saturday in August and is the traditional kickoff of the Kentucky political season.
Political Speaking Chair Mark Wilson said two hotly contested local races are the big draw this year. Democrat Carroll Hubbard and Republican Stan Humphries are competing for the seat vacated by Sen. Ken Winters, and Republican Richard Heath and Democrat Kelly Whitaker are vying for the house seat vacated by Rep. Fred Nesler.
“There’s going to be a lot of interest from the statewide level as well, because I think the republicans are stating they need about 12 more house members to tilt the majority in their favor, so there’s going to be a lot of several more hotly contested house races," said Wilson.
State Agriculture Commissioner James Comer will emcee the political speaking. Several other state and federal lawmakers have been invited to speak. Wilson expected most will confirm attendance soon.
