Enter the 2017 WKMS Singer/Songwriter Competition

Attention Singer/Songwriters!

Send us your best original song by Sunday, February 26 at midnight, and you could be voted among the finalists to perform live at Maiden Alley Cinema for the Grand Prize. 

Each entrant may submit one song to WKMS via:

mp3 emailed to msu.wkms@murraystate.edu or CD mailed to 2018 University Station, Murray, KY 42071. Your entry may feature no more than one accompanist.

Please tell us your name, all contact information, name of accompanist (if applicable), where you're from, and any other information of particular interest.You must also submit this release form with your song.

Songs must be: 

·         Original (no covers)

·         Radio-quality recordings

·         Radio friendly/FCC Clean

·         Different from previous submission if you’ve entered before

·         Your entry can be performed solo or can feature one accompanist

(WKMS facilities or personnel will not be available to record entries. No one who is currently employed by WKMS may enter.) 

Entrants will be narrowed down by a committee of WKMS music hosts and volunteers, followed by online judging by WKMS listeners.

3 finalists will be chosen by social media, and 1 will be a "Judge's Choice." 

The finalists must be available to play three songs in a live concert at Maiden Alley Cinema on Thursday, March 30 at 7:00 p.m., along with an encore if they win. Finalists will perform solo or can be joined by one accompanist.

By entering this contest, you agree to be available to play in the final competition on March 30 if chosen and to allow WKMS to use your submitted song on the air during local programming and as part of a "Singer/Songwriter" compilation CD as a special fundraiser premium (not for sale).

The winning singer/songwriter will receive:

·         Recording opportunity at Time on the String's new sound studio in Paducah's Coke Plant including four- 8 hour days of recording studio time and two- 8 hour days of mixing. ?

·         Spotlight on the Singer/Songwriter at wkms.org and in other press releases, publicity materials, etc. sent to newspapers, magazines, websites and more around the region. And we send your song/info to arts partners who book acts in our area to hype you up!

The winner will also be showcased during the Lowertown Arts and Music Festival in Paducah, KY at the Songwriter Stage. The festival dates are May 19th and 20th.  

Jenni holds a degree in Music Education from Murray State University and a Masters degree in Arts Administration from Florida State University's College of Music. She's equipped with knowledge and enthusiasm for fundraising and the arts. She also serves as a Girl Scout Troop Leader and on the Murray Independent School District Foundation for Excellence Board of Directors.
