Election Night Good News For W. TN Republicans, Incumbents

Wikimedia Commons

The 2014 election results brought good news for Republicans and incumbents in west Tennessee.  Only one of the state legislators in the WKMS listening area failed to keep his seat, Democratic 74th District State Representative John Tidwell of western Montgomery, Houston, and Humphries counties.  Fellow Democratic State Representative Joe Pitts of Clarksville’s 67th District survived his challenge from independent candidate Mike Warner.  Sitting Republicans in west Tennessee’s 68th, 75th, 76th, and 77th state house districts also turned back Democratic opponents.  That trend continued for incumbent Republican Governor Bill Haslam, who beat Charlie Brown, and Tennessee’s veteran GOP U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander, who defeated Democrat Gordon Ball.

Todd Hatton hails from Paducah, Kentucky, where he got into radio under the auspices of the late, great John Stewart of WKYX while a student at Paducah Community College. He also worked at WKMS in the reel-to-reel tape days of the early 1990s before running off first to San Francisco, then Orlando in search of something to do when he grew up. He received his MFA in Creative Writing at Murray State University. He vigorously resists adulthood and watches his wife, Angela Hatton, save the world one plastic bottle at a time.
