The Eisenhower Hour Returns to WKMS

The acclaimed Eisenhower Hour returns to the WKMS program schedule in January with host and producer "Dr. Bob" Lochte. After a two year hiatus, the fun, nostalgic journey though American popular music and culture of the Fifties will air Sundays at 1 p.m. starting January 3rd, 2016.

The core programming material for The Eisenhower Hour is the music of the Fifties. “These were the glory days of Pop Music, but there’s much more,” Dr. Bob said. “Both Rhythm and Blues and Country music were attracting mainstream audiences. And of course Rock ‘n’ Roll was born in the Fifties.” Each hour includes popular songs and artists from each genre with a look back to news, events, and popular culture trends of the decade.

“I’m really excited about this,” said Dr. Bob “Many fans of The Eisenhower Hour have asked me what happened to the show, but my regular day job has been demanding, and I haven’t had time to produce new shows. Fortunately, the music and the memories are still very much alive.”

The Eisenhower Hour first aired on WKMS in August 2005. In all Dr. Bob has produced more than 180 hours of programs, plus holiday specials such as the award-winning Christmas in the Fifties. There will be a new show each week with the new series and a few new wrinkles. “We’re on Facebook now,” said Dr. Bob. “If all goes well, fans will be able to communicate with me more easily, and I can do an all-request show once a month.”

“Dr. Bob” Lochte is a professor in and chair of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communications at Murray State University where he has worked since 1988. Born in 1950, he has a personal and professional interest in the music, disc jockeys, and culture of the era. He lives in Murray with his wife Kate, retired Station Manager at WKMS, and three rescue dogs.
