The US 68/KY 80 Eggners Ferry Bridge is open to vehicle traffic following its closure Tuesday morning to allow placement of a 550 foot main span on the new bridge.
Highway traffic resumed just before 5 a.m. All boat traffic remains halted and a 2000 ft. clear zone remains in place on Kentucky Lake as the contractor removes jacking towers used to raise the massive structure into place. Removing the towers will allow barges to float the $5.1 million pound basket-handle arch into place. That work is expected to continue through today.
Video and photos of the span move are posted at www.facebook.com/kytcdistrict1 and a time-lapse is posted on the bridge cam page at www.lakebridges.com.
