Former state auditor Adam Edelen and Kentucky Sports Radio host Matt Jones launched a new political initiative Tuesday aimed at rejuvenating the Democratic party in Kentucky.

The move comes nearly a year after Republicans, led by Gov. Matt Bevin, scored sweeping victories in statewide elections. Edelen himself lost his re-election bid to Republican Mike Harmon.

The New Kentucky Project’s mission is to “move Kentucky forward and modernize our state through a variety of different policy initiatives”. The NKP also outlines 10 core values, including the belief that everyone deserves equal protection under the law, regardless of race, gender, religion or sexual orientation, as well as the view that education should be the commonwealth's top priority.

The group’s 28-member executive committee includes former Senate candidate Sellus Wilder, as well as Hopkinsville attorney Lincoln Foster and Marshall County Democratic Party chair Susanna French.

John Null is the host and creator of Left of the Dial. From 2013-2016, he also served as a reporter in the WKMS newsroom.
