'Duo Damiana' Explores Thoughtful Dualities in Music, Tonight

"One who tames; subdues" is the Latin meaning of 'Damiana' and "Untamed" in French and Greek. Guitarist Dieter Hennings of the University of Kentucky and Grammy Award winning flutist Molly Barth of the University of Oregon are Duo Damiana and they focus on broadening the cutting-edge body of repertoire for flute and guitar. Duo Damiana performs tonight at 7:30 in Performing Arts Hall at Murray State. We hear their music and learn about their inspirations on Sounds Good

Their performance is tonight at 7:30 in the Performing Arts Hall on Murray State's Campus. Tickets available at 270-809-4288. They'll perform works by Toru Takemitsu, Herbert Vazquez, Shafer Mahoney, Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon, Michael Fiday and David Lang.

As a founding member of the new music sextet eighth blackbird from 1996-2006, Molly Barth won the 2007 “Best Chamber Music Performance” Grammy Award. She has taken her work around the world: Australia, Korea and Mexico. And has performed at esteemed institutions, such as the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, Oberlin University, San Francisco Conservatory and others.

Award-winning guitarist Dieter Hennings practices both new music on guitar and early music for lute, baroque guitar and theorbo. He has been a soloist with ensembles in Canada, Italy and Mexico among others. He is active in new Latin American music, recently working with Mario Davidovsky, Carlos Sanches-Gutierrez, Juan Trigos and Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon.
