Murray State University President Randy Dunn says he is not one of the four finalists seeking the post of Northern Illinois University President. Dunn made his comments today following a public meeting on proposed changes to the university budget including cuts, and new revenue.
Dunn’s statement follows some speculation among the campus community that he would look to return to his home state to run the 20,000 student institution. Dunn previously served as the Illinois State Superintendent of Schools. For six months, Dunn has been hunting for jobs as uncertainty surrounds his future with Murray State. Dunn’s contract expires in June of 2014, but the university’s board of regents is required to act on the contract on or before June 2013.
Board of Regents Chairman Constantine (Deno) Curris formed an ad-hoc committee to review the president’s contract in January. The committee has met once publicly to determine the metrics they’ll use to assess Dunn’s work. Unofficial meeting minutes had indicated the board would enter executive session on Friday to discuss the committee’s work. However, a recently released agenda for the meeting does not mention a planned executive session for either the committee or the board.
