Dorm Fire Trial Moves to Marshall County
By Gary Pitts
The case against a man charged with the fatal 1998 Murray State University dormitory fire, will move from Calloway to Marshall County.
Attorneys for the prosecution and defense agree Jerry Wayne Walker would receive fewer biased jurors in Marshall County. Walker’s attorney has filed a motion to dismiss charges, but Circuit Judge Dennis Foust has yet to rule on that motion.
The trial is Walker’s second related to the incident that killed MSU student Michael Minger. He faced similar charges in 2001, but that trial ended with a hung jury. The new trial is set to begin July 9th at the Marshall County Courthouse.
