Decision on Shawnee Fossil Plant Units Coming Tuesday

TVA

The Tennessee Valley Authority’s board of directors will decide Tuesday on the fate of two coal-burning units at West Paducah’s Shawnee Fossil Plant.

The board could shut down units 1 and 4 at the plant, which are operating above the legal limit for sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions. Other options include retrofitting the units for biomass burning or adding additional pollution controls.

TVA has said it’s unknown how many of Shawnee’s 275 jobs would be lost if the units were shut down.

The meeting will be webcast by TVA beginning at 8:50 a.m. CST Tuesday morning at this link. Those who wish to listen to the board meeting can also call in to 1-877-270-2148 or 412-902-6510 and ask for the TVA board meeting conference call, though there will be no public comment opportunity.
