Datebook: September 18 - Monster Yard Sale, Poetry Out Loud, Free LBL

The 9th annual Monster Community Yard & Bake Sale benefiting the Mayfield-Graves County Needline & Food Pantry is Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Humphries Tobacco Warehouse. Volunteers are needed. For more information about volunteering, contact First Christian Church at 270-247-2204.

Kentucky high schools can register through October 1 to participate in Poetry Out Loud, a national poetry recitation competition. Poetry Out Loud begins at the classroom level and advances through school-wide and statewide competitions. The winner of the state competition represents Kentucky at the national finals in Washington, D.C. More information at artscouncil.ky.gov.

This Saturday and Sunday, Land Between the Lakes offers current and retired teachers, home educators and their immediate families free admission to the Homeplace, Golden Pond Planetarium and Woodlands Nature Station. Bring a letter printed on  your school letterhead, a school faculty ID card or your home educator identification.
