Datebook: September 15 - Dragon Boat Festival, Gibralter of the West, All About Gourds

The River Discovery Center in Paducah hosts the third annual Dragon Boat Festival this Saturday morning at 9. Approximately three dozen local teams race 40-foot-long dragon boats. The festival is free to spectators. Proceeds from team entry fees and sponsorships go towards educational programs at the River Discovery Center. As part of its Evenings Upstairs series, the McCracken County Public Library presents "Columbus Belmont: The Gibralter of the West" by park manager Cindy Lync. The presentation is Thursday night at 7 in the second floor meeting room. All programs are free and open to the public. 

The Mayfield/Graves County Art Guild's "All About Gourds" exhibition is on display at the Ice House Gallery until October 11. Four theme categories challenged the artists to explore the functional and artistic possibilities of the gourd. For more information, visit icehousearts.org or call (270) 247-6971.
