Datebook: October 13 - Special Olympics, Howl at the Moon, Jeremy B. Jones

Special Olympics basketball signups are this Thursday night at 6 at the First United Methodist Church gym in Murray. Special Olympics is the world’s largest sports training program for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Athletes ages 8 and up of all skill levels are needed. Volunteers are also invited to attend the event. 

The McCracken County Public Library celebrates its third annual Howl at the Moon community festival this Thursday night at 6 in the library garden. The free event features a concert by the Solid Rock’It Boosters, face painting, cornhole, door prizes, and free hot dogs, apples, and popcorn.

Award-winning creative nonfiction writer Jeremy B. Jones gives a reading Thursday night at 7:30 in the Clara M. Eagle Gallery on the campus of Murray State University. Jones presently teaches creative writing at Western Carolina University. The reading is free and open to the public.

Kala Dunn is a native of Princeton, Ky. She’s a 2006 graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy with a concentration in flute performance and a 2010 graduate of Murray State University with a B.M. in piano performance. She lives in Hamlin, Ky.
