Datebook: May 29 - Stravinsky Provokes Paris Riot 100 Years Ago

The new Theatre des Champs-Elysees in Paris was packed to see Igor Stravinsky'sThe Rite of Spring. The dancers took the stage and in the first stamping, discordant notes of "Augurs of Spring" the audience completely lost their composure. Theatergoers shouted in disgust, banged on the seats, attacked each other and hurled things at the orchestra. One critic called the show "a laborious and puerile barbarity."

The Paducah Parks Services Department presents the movie “Brave” tomorrow night at dusk at Noble Park Amphitheater. Admission is free, and concessions are available for purchase. Bring lawn chairs or blankets and insect repellent.

Sale proceeds benefit the Angels Community Clinic, which provides health care to the working uninsured in Calloway County.
