Datebook: May 10 - Anna Jarvis Leads First Mother's Day 105 Years Ago

Anna Jarvis wanted to do something special to remember her mother. On this day in 1908, she held the first "official" Mother's Day in Grafton, West Virginia. What began as a church service turned into a national campaign. Four years later, Congress passed a law designating the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day.

The Paducah artists who traveled to Innsbruck, Austria, as part of an artist-in-residence cultural exchange present a talk and share photos of their experience at the Yeiser Art Center Saturday afternoon at 3. Hope Unlimited Family Care Center in Paducah holds its Baby Bottle Fundraiser Mother’s Day through Father’s Day. Businesses, organizations, churches, and individuals are invited to fill a baby bottle with spare change to help area families in need. For more information, call 442-1166.

There’s an exhibit of antique radios at the Pennyroyal Area Museum in Hopkinsville, on display now through the month of June. The tabletop radios are part of a local private collection, and each piece has its original cabinet finishes and knobs. The museum’s open Tuesday through Friday from 9 to 5 and Saturday from 10 to 3.
