Datebook: February 9 - Black Frontier Indians, Naan Cooking, Astronomy Program

In honor of Black History Month, author Ted Franklin Belue speaks on "Black Indians and Black Mountain Men on the Frontier: Restoring a Vanishing Legacy" this Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the Calloway County Public Library. Belue is a professor in the Murray State University department of history. The program is free and open to the public. 

West Kentucky Community and Technical College offers a community education class titled “And Then There Was Naan!” on Tuesday, February 16, at 6 p.m. at the Anderson Technical Building Culinary Kitchen and Bistro. The cooking class focuses on Indian cuisine. Preregistration is required.

The Golden Pond Planetarium at Land Between the Lakes offers a show titled “From Earth to the Universe” tomorrow afternoon at 1. Viewers visit the birthplaces and burial grounds of stars and learn about the history of astronomy, the invention of the telescope, and today’s giant telescopes that allow scientists to probe even deeper into the universe.
