Datebook: December 31 - Wastelanders Exhibit, Gentry House Donations, Oratorical Contest

The Paducah Wastelanders hold their 9th Annual New Year’s Eve Art Exhibition and Celebration tonight from 6 to 9 at the Yeiser Art Center in Paducah. The event includes live music and refreshments. Following the opening reception, the show is on display January 2nd and January 5th through the 9th from 10 to 5 daily. 

The Gentry House in Murray is a transitional shelter that helps homeless families who may have suffered from domestic violence or lost jobs. They’re currently seeking donations of kitchen utensils, pots and pans, cleaning supplies, dish soap, trash bags, paper towels, and toilet paper. Monetary donations are also appreciated, and volunteer opportunities are available.

High school students under the age of 20 are invited to participate in the American Legion Oratorical Contest. The District One contest is set for January 24th at 2 p.m. at the Weaks Community Center in Murray. For more information about the competition, contact Mark Kennedy at (270) 752-3333.
