Datebook: August 24 - Cash Crop, Hummingbird Morning, Salvation Army History

The Trahern Gallery at Austin Peay State University presents "Cash Crop" featuring the work of Stephen Hayes. The exhibit includes 15 life-size sculptures of human beings in shackles, representing the 15 million people kidnapped and transported by sea during the trans-Atlantic slave trade. There are also prints, drawings, and sculptures that draw parallels between the economics of the Atlantic slave trade and the Third World sweatshops of today. It’s on display through September 21.

The Nature Station at Land Between the Lakes offers a Morning with the Hummingbirds tomorrow at 10:30. Watch the hummingbirds in their morning feeding frenzy, then learn about hummingbird natural history and how to help them during their migration. More at landbetweenthelakes.org.

An exhibit on the history of the Salvation Army remains on display through the end of the week at the Pennyroyal Area Museum in Hopkinsville. The exhibit includes books, photographs, uniforms, musical instruments, and more. For more information, call 270-887-4270.
