Datebook 3/9: Shakespeare Fest, Flatboat Wreck, Art for the People

As part of the 15th annual Murray Shakespeare Festival at Murray State University, the American Shakespeare Center presents “The Life of King Henry V” tomorrow night at 7 in Lovett Auditorium on the campus of Murray State University. The McCracken County Public Library presents “Arks, Broad Horns, and Hoop Pole Boats: the America Flatboat Wreck in Southern Illinois” tomorrow night at 7 in the second floor meeting room. Mark J. Wagner discusses the history of flatboat travel on the Ohio River. The program is free and open to the public.

A symposium titled “Art for the People: WPA/New Deal Programs in Kentucky and Beyond” is this Friday from 10 to 7 on the sixth floor of the Doyle Fine Arts Building at Murray State University. The day’s events include presentations on aspects of New Deal culture, a keynote address by Erika Doss, a printmaking tutorial, and a roundtable discussion.
