Datebook 3/28: Half Marathon Volunteers, 1866 Memphis Massacre, Soup for the Soul Donations

The Murray Half Marathon is looking for volunteers for April 14, 15, and 16. Volunteer jobs available include assembling runners’ packets, attaching timing chips to bibs, helping with registration, participating in race setup, staffing the finish line, assisting with traffic stops, staffing water stops, and more. Volunteers under age 18 must have adult supervision.

University of Memphis associate professor Dr. Beverly Bond discusses gender and the 1866 Memphis Massacre this Thursday afternoon at 4 at Austin Peay State University’s Morgan University Center. Bond is the author of numerous books and journal articles on race, class, and gender in the 19th-century urban South. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Soup for the Soul is a community soup kitchen in Murray funded entirely by donations. The kitchen is open Monday through Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at 411 Maple Street. Donations of food, money, hair nets, cleaning supplies, and paper towels are needed, and volunteer opportunities are available.
