Datebook 3/24: Civil War Presentation, Backyard Birds, Paint Your Pet

The McCracken County Public Library presents "General Charles F. Smith: Teacher of Civil War Generals" tonight at 7. General Smith was a teacher, mentor, and role model for many young officers who became prominent Civil War generals, and he directed a charge on the Rebel works at Fort Donelson. The presenter is author, educator, and historian Allen Mesch. The program is free and open to the public. 

The Wildlife Education Department at Discovery Park of America holds a program titled “Backyard Birds!” in the Reelfoot Room of the Discovery Center tomorrow at 11:30 and 2. Bird experts help participants of all ages learn how to attract and identify different species of birds. This program is free with park admission.

There’s a “Paint Your Pet” night scheduled for tomorrow from 6 to 8 at Creative Canvas in Murray. Doors open at 5:30. A portion of the proceeds benefit the Humane Society of Calloway County. More information available at forthepets.org.
