Crit Luallen Ponders Political Future

A mainstay in Kentucky state government is keeping an open mind about her political future.

Democrat CritLuallen was appointed lieutenant governor last month when Jerry Abramson resigned for a job at the White House.

At an event in Warren County Tuesday, Luallen was asked if she will seek office again and possibly challenge Republican Rand Paul for U.S. Senate in 2016.

"I don’t envision another opportunity that might present itself where I would run for office again, but then I didn’t envision this opportunity," Luallen said.

"This came out of the blue -and I don’t ever want to close all the doors- but right now, my focus is on being the best lieutenant governor I can be."

Luallen has spent most of her career in state government, having served six governors and was elected to statewide office twice.

She said her focus now is helping Governor Beshear leave his tenure on a high note as he prepares for his final year in office.

Luallen has already ruled out a run for governor next year.
