County Splits Insurance Hike with Employees
By Casey Northcutt
Murray, KY – As the economy worsens, the Calloway County government works to ease financial burdens on its employees. Judge Executive Larry Elkins says the county's health insurance provider, Blue Cross Blue Shield, recently increased its monthly rates by 9.5 percent. Insurance now cost 450 dollars per month per employee, but the county has agreed to pay approximately 380 dollars of that price. It will also pay for the entire cost increase for life and accidental death and disability costs. Elkins says the government began assisting with health insurance in the late 1990s, and it hopes to continue helping its employees afford health plans for as long as possible.
