Competitive Tickling Exposé, Psychological Horror 'The Neon Demon' Coming to Maiden Alley

Magnolia Pictures/Amazon Studios

Paducah's Maiden Alley Cinema is ending the summer on a high note, with several acclaimed independent films programmed for the rest of July and August. In the next couple weeks, the nonprofit arthouse will feature Tickled, a documentary on the surprisingly seedy world of competitive tickling, as well as The Neon Demon, the latest offering from Nicolas Winding Refn – the director of Drive. John Null caught up with MAC's John Holt to discuss the coming attractions.

Tickled follows New Zealand journalist David Farrier as he attempts to write a story on competitive endurance tickling. It starts out as a lighthearted look at a "sport" that Farrier didn't know existed, but quickly turns dark as the people behind it begin to use intimidation tactics against the director. Tickled starts Friday, July 22 and plays through Tuesday, July 26.

The Neon Demon follows a young woman (Elle Fanning - Maleficent) who moves to Los Angeles and has to contend with murderous jealousy in the modeling industry. It co-stars Jena Malone (The Hunger Games), Christina Hendricks (Mad Men), Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road) and Keanu Reeves (The Matrix). The Neon Demon opens Saturday, July 30 and plays through Tuesday, August 2.
