Company Representatives: New Darling Ingredients Plant in Paducah Should Be Odor Free

A company with facilities reported to plague some cities with an awful stench is coming to Paducah, but company officials don’t expect the new facility to be a problem.

Darling Ingredients transforms animal by-products into ingredients for other products. The company’s new operation in Paducah’s old U.S. Foods building will repurpose fresh meat for pet food.

This is not Darling’s first facility in our region. Its plant in Union City, Tennessee, is known to emit foul odors at times. But Obion County Chamber of Commerce CEO Lindsey Frilling said the company is a significant economic driver that supports the community. She said the plant has been there long enough that the community is used to the occasional smell.

Paducah Economic Development President Scott Darnell said Darling Ingredients has been very cooperative and deferred any comment on odor concerns to the company.

Darling Ingredients Spokesperson Melissa Gaither said the Paducah operation is different from other facilities that emit smells.  She said Darling Ingredients works to limit any smells from their facilities but the Paducah facility should not be a nuisance to the surrounding area.
