Committee to Consider Reflective Tape on Buggies

By Todd Hatton

Murray, KY – The Kentucky Senate Transportation Committee will consider a bill today allowing slow-moving vehicles without motors to use reflective tape for safety rather than slow-moving vehicle signs. The bill by Murray Senator Ken Winters would also provide an alternative lighting system. Tuesday, two state representatives, Democrat Johnny Bell and Republican Ron Crimm, spoke in favor of a similar measure in the House Transportation Committee. Crimm also has a bill that would allow use of lanterns on the sides of buggies. The proposals resulted from legal issues involving a group of Graves County Amish who object to the orange, triangular signs on religious grounds.
