Commissioners to Vote on Police Upgrades

By Chris Taylor

Paducah, KY – Paducah City Commissioners will vote in two weeks on almost $300,000 worth of major upgrades for the police department. That vote will determine if the city orders five new police cruisers from Paducah Ford for just over $100,000 and whether or not to buy a new bomb removal robot and upgrade its current one. Funds for the robot should be covered through a Homeland Security grant. Commissioners heard at their meeting yesterday the new robot will be faster, able to maneuver through close quarters, and lift a hundred pounds more than the current one. Paducah's Bomb Squad responds to emergency situations throughout the region.
