Coleman to Request Recount
By Carrie Pond
Paducah, KY – City Commissioner Robert Coleman says he'll file a recount request for his loss in the Paducah Mayoral race before today's deadline. After a recanvass yesterday, officials upheld Coleman's 48-vote loss to Mayor Bill Paxton. Coleman says he's requesting a recount because of the tightness of the race - only about half a percent of more than 10 thousand votes - and says a recount will more thoroughly address some of his questions. Coleman says one of his main concerns involves split precincts, where he's heard reports that county residents were allowed to vote in city races. As far as he knows, a recount hasn't been conducted in Paducah since the switch to electronic voting machines. Coleman will file for the recount with the McCracken Circuit Court, where a judge will determine how the recount will be conducted.
