A western Kentucky coal miner was killed early Wednesday morning at a mine in Webster County.
According to a news release issued by the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet, 29-year-old Rickey Thorpe of Dawson Springs was repairing a continuous miner head when it fell, crushing him.
The Sebree mine, operated by Alliance Coal, has been closed while the Kentucky Division of Mine Safety investigates.
This is the second mine-related death in Kentucky this year. That number equals 2014's total of Kentucky miners killed on the job, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader. The other death occurred in May at a surface mine in Pike County.
