Clearing Streams

By KPR

Frankfort, KY – More than one year after a major ice storm hit the Commonwealth, some western Kentucky communities still face some waterway problems. Muhlenberg County Representative Brent Yonts says trees and debris still clog some streams.

"Ice storm contributed to an already existing problem of debris that has accumulated over time from wind and has been unable to be removed because no funds are available to remove it."

Yonts sponsored legislation that gives local governments clear authority to hire contractors who can clear blocked streams. The bill easily passed the house Monday.
