The Clarksville area straddling the Kentucky-Tennessee border has the nation’s highest concentration of employed single young men, with a ratio of 145 employed bachelors to every 100 women.
The Pew Research Center used census data to map the "marriage market," showing concentrations of unmarried women and men ages 25 to 34. The study found single young men outnumber bachelorettes nationwide at a ratio of 115 to 100.
Pew found in a previous pollthat 78 percent of never married women interested in marriage find it “very important” that their potential spouse has a steady job with 46 percent of their male counterparts sharing the standard.
Though the Clarksville area has a high concentration of employed bachelors, the ratio of employed single women to men is 32 to 100. The Owensboro area has the lowest ratio of employed single men to women in Kentucky at 74 to 100.
According to the Clarksville Leaf Chronicle, many in the Clarksville area attribute their number of employed single men to Fort Campbell.
