Champion Murder Trial Set for August

A Trigg County man charged with plotting the October murders of his family and an acquaintance won’t face trial until late next year.

36-year-old Ryan Champion faces counts of murder, complicity to commit murder and kidnapping.

He allegedly enlisted help from 22-year Vito Riservato in the shooting deaths of his parents Lindsey and Joy Champion along with his sister, Emily in their Cadiz home.

Prosecutors believe Champion then killed Riservato after he carried out the plot.

Ann Plotkin, a friend of Champion's, allegedly knew of the crimes and failed to report to police. She faces charges of complicity to murder.

Champion's trial date has been set for August 15 and is expected to run four weeks. Commonwealth Attorney Carrie Ovey-Wiggins has previously said if found guilty, the state will seek the death penalty.
