Retiring Commonwealth Attorney G.L. Ovey will be succeeded by his daughter Carrie Ovey-Wiggins.
Last week, Governor Steve Beshear appointed Ovey-Wiggins as Commonwealth’s Attorney in the 56th Judicial Circuit, a post her father held for 27 years.
She’s currently the assistant Commonwealth Attorney.
G.L. announced his retirement in October. He had been special prosecutor in the zoning misconduct trial against former McCracken County Judge Executive Van Newberry. Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway will now have to seek a new special prosecutor in the case.
The 56th Circuit covers Trigg, Livingston, Caldwell and Lyon counties.
Ovey-Wiggins’ appointment is effective January 1st.
