A Calloway County Middle School Science Bowl team placed first in the regional Science Bowl competition, competing against 17 teams from two states. They will compete in the National Science Bowl in Washington D.C. at the end of April.

This win marks the fourth time the Lakers represent Kentucky in the national tournament. The academic competition tests students’ knowledge in areas of science and mathematics.

Team One is Sophia Bogard, Andrew Hardt, Marshall Hays, Isaac Anderson and Jay Turner.

Team Two placed fifth in the tournament and are Jessica Wicker, James Frazier, Sunny Clark, Jayden Morris and Jayne Bishop.

The students are coached by Heather Duffy, Dan Thompson, Mitch Hultman and Scott Pile.

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
