Calloway County High School has approved a student request for a Gay-Straight Alliance. Last month, students submitted a letter requesting the group which they say is needed to address homophobia, harassment, bullying, and discrimination at the school.
CCHS spokesperson John McMillen says the group has been given a space where they can meet at any time as long as a staff member is present to monitor them. Calloway’s new GSA is one few such student groups in western Kentucky, with Graves, Christian, and Hopkins county reporting they have no LGBT student groups, Daviess County reporting there has been one in years past, and Owensboro City Schools reporting a current GSA.
