BIll Would Allow Alcohol in State Parks

By Lisa Autry / Angela Hatton

Frankfort, KY – Alcohol could land on the menu at Kentucky state parks under a bill lawmakers will consider next year. State Senator Denise Harper-Angel has pre-filed a bill that would allow local option elections for state parks in dry territory. It would apply to parks that have a full-service lodge with a dining room and to parks with golf courses. Once a local option election is held and the referendum passes, the state park would have to obtain a license to sell drinks at the park or at public or private functions held on the premises. The Kentucky Department of Parks estimates alcohol sales by the drink at state parks would generate about four-million dollars annually.
