Governor Matt Bevin has signed a proclamation declaring September 28th a “Day of Prayer Over Students Across Kentucky.”

A statement released by the office of state Representative Regina Bunch says the Williamsburg Republican has been trying for years to get the proclamation signed. Bevin is the first Governor to do so.

Bunch says it’s an effort to mobilize thousands of Kentucky adults to pray for, and with, their teenagers. The proclamation says Kentucky students are facing “extreme challenges” such as peer pressure to abuse drugs and alcohol, school violence, and low self-esteem.

It says it’s incumbent upon parents, and corporate and community leaders to do everything within their power to protect Kentucky students.

The proclamation does NOT call for any kind of prayer events to take place at schools.
