Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin has directed all flags at state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Friday in honor of a soldier who was captured and killed during the Korean War.

Citing the Department of Defense, the Governor’s Office said in a release Cpl. Ernest L.R. Heilman of Greenup was 19 when he was declared missing in action on February 13, 1953 in Hoengsong, South Korea.

He was accounted for on August 19, 2016 and will be buried on Friday in Arlington National Cemetery. A rosette will be placed next to his name on the Courts of the Missing at the National Cemetery of the Pacific to indicate that he has been accounted for.

Heilman was a member of Battery B, 15th Field Artillery Battalion, Second Infantry Division.

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
