Baptist Health Plan to Stop Individual Insurance in Kentucky

Approximately 7,000 Kentuckians on Baptist Health Plan will have to find a new insurance provider next year. The state’s fourth-largest insurer said in a letter to state officials they will no longer sell individual policies in the commonwealth.

State officials say Baptist Health Plan President James Fritz said the company had enrolled more people than it planned and said federal risk assessments imposed by the federal Affordable Care Act are "unsustainable."

Insurance plans sold on the state’s health exchange will be good through December 31. Plans sold off the exchange will expire March 31.

Next year, people in 59 counties will have one insurance provider selling plans on the state health exchange. Off the exchange, most counties will have two options, state officials said.
