Ballard-Carlisle County Library to Reopen Friday

http://www.ballardcarlislekygenealogy.com/

The Ballard-Carlisle County Library is scheduled to reopen this Friday, June 10.

The library was closed in December after 30-year librarian Sonja Mainord retired.

The library lacked funds to pay for a new librarian, but Mary Silgals, a secretary in the adjoining genealogy society office, decided to donate her time to keep the space open.

A meeting is scheduled with the library board on June 20 to discuss means of getting traffic back into the library. Silgals wants local residents to be aware of the library's reopening and says,“After having been closed for five months it’ll take a while to get the word out that the library is back open so we’re going to have to just do a little planning and make sure that people use the resource now that it’s available for them.”

Silgals says she has already made changes since assuming the role, including switching the card catalog system to the electronic software saying it’s time to come into the 21st century.

The library’s new hours are Fridays from 9 to 4 and Saturdays from 9 to 2.
