Austin Peay State University banned hoverboards and other self-balancing scooters following an investigation by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The CPSC issued an advisory about the fire risk associated with hoverboards. APSU Executive Director of Public Relations Bill Persinger says they will be banned until acceptable safety standards can be developed and implemented.
He says he hasn’t had any feedback from faculty or staff. Similar devices that are powered by rechargeable lithium ion batteries are also banned.
