[Audio] Playhouse in the Park Presents "Disney's The Little Mermaid"

Matt Markgraf, WKMS

Disney's The Little Mermaid opens Thursday at Playhouse in the Park in Murray. On Sounds Good, Austin Carter speaks with Laurel Johnston, playing Ariel in the production. They talk about differences between the movie and musical and acting with a young cast.

Johnston says she was scared of Ursula growing up but loved the song, "Under the Sea." She says it's fun to prepare for the solos and worked to preserve her voice throughout the rehearsal process. There is new music in this show, different than the movie, namely a quartet, a few songs with Eric and an extra song by Ursula.

There are a lot of young people in the cast, she says, with most ages between 10 to 25. The director, Brad Brauser, plays King Triton.
