[Audio] Playhouse in the Park Presents 'Avenue Q' This Week

This week, Playhouse in the Park presents Avenue Q the Musical. Music director Brad Brauser joins Tracy Ross on Sounds Good to talk about the performance.

Brauser says first and foremost, this is a program intended for mature audiences. He says it’s a bit like “Sesame Street” but for adults. It first hit Broadway in 2008 and found critical success.

The music director says after the Playhouse’s successful performance of “Rent,” they decided to do another Playhouse After Dark event, this time “Avenue Q.”

The play will feature both puppet and human characters, including Josh Brower as Gary Coleman. Brower says Coleman and the rest of the cast draw creative and humorous metaphors for everyday occurences.

Brauser says there are plenty of catchy tunes that sound like something you’d hear on shows for kids, but the topics are much more relatable and crafted for adults.

The show opens Thursday, April 21 and runs through April 30. It starts at 8 P.M. and tickets are $12 for adults, $11 for seniors, $10 for students and $9 for kids (though he recommends you don’t bring children). This Thursday and next Thursday, tickets are half price.

For tickets, call Playhouse in the Park or visit their website.
