[Audio] "Operation Jumpstart" Looks to Develop Local Entrepreneurial Ideas

Kentucky Small Business Development Center / ksbdc.org

Operation Jumpstart is a nine-part program starting next month designed to help would-be entrepreneurs test the feasibility of their idea.

Hear Tracy Ross talk about the course on Sounds Good with Chris Wooldridge, District Director of the Kentucky Small Business Development Center at Murray State along with Gina Winchester, Executive Director of Regional Outreach for MSU and Will McDowell, Vice President of Paducah Economic Development.

The program is spread out over nine weeks, with meetings held on Tuesdays. Each day’s theme focuses on a different aspect of a business, and helps attendees prepare to launch and maintain their own venture.

Wooldridge says those participating should have ideas that are relatively developed, but aren’t required to be a pre-existing business. The program itself is designed to test the practicality of each concept.

Part of Winchester’s job with the course is attracting potential applicants. She says there are 25 spots available, but she hopes to get more than that for the possibility of additional projects.

A major partner in the project is EntrePaducah; McDowell says programs like Jumpstart can make the difference when turning an idea into a profitable business for the region.

The program is free, and starts April 19. Applications are due April 11.

For more information, contact the Murray State KSBDC at (270) 809-2856 or e-mail Wooldridge at cwooldridge@murraystate.edu.
